About the job

Essential Functions
  • Drive and operate forklifts to move materials throughout designated locations.
  • Coordinate with departments to position materials in necessary areas.
  • Move materials from and to materials center and shipping warehouse.
  • Stack and unstack materials for storage and shipping.
  • Present and remove materials from work areas.
  • Serve trailers to provide materials for shipping and processing.
  • Load and unload truck trailers.
  • Place items onto the forklift.
  • Ensure material is stored based on current and future needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting if equipment is not working properly.
  • Handle sending and receiving duties on the loading dock.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Mark and scan materials for inventory control.
  • Communicate with forklift drivers and workers to adjust movements.
Job Scope
  • Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
  • Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice.
  • Competent in tasks that are beyond entry level.
  • Usually, the forklift driver will be assigned tasks for the day and then will perform these tasks independently.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiar with the workings of a forklift.
  • Understands the logistics of the facility being worked in and can place items in the proper area.
  • Communication skills are essential to help workflow and maintain safety.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Job hours may require late-night or early-morning shifts.
  • Preferred: certified forklift driver.
  • Must comply with quality, PPE requirements, and safety policies and procedures.
Physical/Visual Demands/Work Environment
  • Performing repetitive or short-cycle work.
  • Performing effectively under stress.
  • Dealing with people in job situations beyond receiving work instructions.
  • Making judgments and decisions based on various criteria.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and climb under/on top of machinery, trucks, storage racks, etc.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions
  • Sometimes carried out outdoors, subjecting the driver to unpleasant weather conditions.
  • Noise intensity level: loud (can manufacturing department, large equipment, heavy traffic).
  • Proximity to moving mechanical parts and risk of collision.
  • Exposure to outside atmospheric conditions.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay rate is $22.03/hour plus $0.50 shift differential.
